Me
Hi, thanks for clicking around. I'm not sure what I thought this aspect of the blog would look like when I was fourteen, naming the site. It's morphed over the years, but now, I've decided that I want this page to be a showcase of the work that I do beyond the blog. A little get to know the blogger kind of thing as I bring more of my actual life to the site nearly a decade in.
My name is Lanie, it's nice to meet you. I'm twenty-two, and I've always loved an older version of the internet. I started this blog in 2017 at the tale-end of blogging's major cultural relevancy. I fell in love with Tumblr long past its peak. I've been creating online projects ever since I launched this blog. I had a music zine in college for a number of years until it got too expensive to run, and I now have a Substack called Lanie Land where I talk about things that aren't books.
While you can find my full portfolio website here, I thought I'd give you a little tour of some of the things I'm working on right now to get to know me beyond my numerous thoughts about all things books!
Book Blogger
This book blog was the beginning of so much. It was the start of me reading critically and consuming books as considered art. Reading like a writer. It was also my first exposure to working online, building a platform, and working in social media (skills I've gone on to use professionally!), and the blog taught me everything I know about the publishing world. I also learned that I could just open up an outpost for my thoughts on the internet and start typing. The blog has been a constant in my life ever since. I'd like to think it's grown up beyond being a teenage hobby, but that's how it began.
M.Phil In Creative Writing Student
Currently, I'm studying Creative Writing at Trinity College Dublin. That means that in 2025, I moved my life from Wyoming to Ireland. I've been absolutely loving it. It's living the dream to be able to think about books and writing all day in class, outside of class, with my peers who have the same enthusiasm. We're a small cohort on a condensed timeline, which works great for my intensity loving brain.
Lanie Land
If you want to keep up with even more of my writing, I run a Substack called Lanie Land. It started as a project for a freshman year journalism class in college, but I've taken it over since as an outlet for music reviews, fashion and beauty posts, general ramblings, and my favorite series—Dublin Diaries—where I document the things I loved each month as I get to know my new home.
Writer
As you've probably gathered, I'm a writer as well as a reader. I'm hoping to one day have novels of my own out in the world. For now, I've published short fiction in a variety of journals:
- Short Story: “The Old Place” in Discretionary Love
- Flash Fiction: “Double Lucky” in A Thin Slice of Anxiety
- Short Story: “Cheerios” in Culterate Issue II
- Short Story: “Stick Shift” in The Lit Nerds
- Flash Fiction: “Claritin” in Coalitionworks Issue 7
- Flash Fiction: “untitled” in infinite scroll magazine issue 1.1
- forthcoming in January 2026: “SLC” in Granite
And I also am a freelance writer. Soon, I'll have some book reviews out somewhere very exciting as I formalize my book criticism, but I also regularly contribute to JHStyle, my hometown lifestyle magazine and have written for Observer and the Infatuation.
- Literary Travels: 8 Must-Read Novels That Will Transport You Around the World for Observer
- 10 Must-Read Books to Check Out While You Wait for Sally Rooney’s New Novel for Observer
- tep Through The Purple Door for JH Style (in print edition Summer 25)
- The 15 Best Restaurants in Jackson Hole for the Infatuation
I used to run a music blog called Musings, that is sadly no more. That was at its peak when I was in college, studying Music Industry at USC. It usually surprises people when they learn that I didn't get an English degree! I was also the Managing Editor of Trojans360, the student lifestyle blog, when I was in college.
Zine
Okay, you heard it here first. I'm working on a zine, and I'm very very excited to tell you all more about it, but it's TBD. I have a lot of projects in the works, but I'm putting this here to hold myself to getting it done.

Hi Although in Australia I'd like to add a link to your blog on my secondary library's page for students to access - ok with you?
