Weekly Reviews and Recommendations: Week 31 Part 2

Hello, everyone! I currently have no internet at my house which is why I did not post my event wrap-up of the John Green event, which was amazing by the way. I will write and post that when I get back to the reliable Wifi at school. Today, I have a review of a book I got at the author event prior to John's, Katharine McGee's! This was a fun, great read as you'll see below.  Linked below are my reviews of Katharine's first book, my story about going to her author event, and my Turtles All The Way Down  book review that I posted earlier in the week.  The Dazzling Heights  by Katharine McGee (422 pages) Overview: This book starts off right where The Thousandth Floor  left us, with each of the characters grappling with their involvement in the mysterious death and their own issues they've battled since book one. A new girl comes to town, as well, named Calliope Brown, a mysterious new girl to create more issues for the upper floor girls. That's about ...

Hello, everyone! The time has come for me to post my review of Turtles All The Way Down ! Also, I'm waking up at 6 AM tomorrow (Way too early for me!), but it's okay because I'm going to see John and Hank Green in person tomorrow night in Indianapolis! Does anyone else happen to be going to that show? Have you been or have tickets to a stop coming up? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter. Below, you'll find links to all of my John Green book (and movie) review articles as well as a link to a You Tube video from John where he speaks about OCD. I thought the video was so wonderful and important and informative. It also makes a great before or after viewing for Turtles .  Without the dust jacket Turtles All The Way Down  by John Green (286 pages)  Purchase Here Overview: Aza Holmes is a sixteen year old girl from Indianapolis, Indiana. She's a best friend and a student and a daughter and also someone who deals with intrusive thought spirals because she ...

Hello, everyone! Today (I know, a day late, but by the time I was going to post it yesterday I decided I might as well wait till now) I have one of my all time favorite books reviewed for you. I love how Rainbow portrays anxiety in this book. I also loved getting to hear about another writer and word counts and random writer-like things like that while reading. As you can see from the picture, I read this during Harvey, and it made not having power kinda (not really) okay. Also, I'm only a few days away from seeing John Green! I still cannot believe I'm going. On Friday, I posted my two fold book/ movie review for The Fault In Our Stars  in preparation for this week. It's linked below, and from that article, you can find all my other John Green reviews. The one for TATWD comes out Wednesday! Fangirl  by Rainbow Rowell (438 pages) Overview : Cath is going into her freshman year as a ball of nerves and anxiety. Actually, that's kind of how Cath's gone into eve...

The Book and The Movie: The Fault in Our Stars

Hello, everyone! So I wrote this post a really  long time ago and forgot I never posted it! I was looking for my review of The Fault In Our Stars  to link it to my Turtles All The Way Down  review (coming Wednesday) when I realized it didn't exist. Oops. Better late than never, I guess. I've explained below how this post is a bit different than my standard review, and I hope you all enjoy it! For this new series of posts (The Book and The Movie), I wanted to share my thoughts on YA books and their companion movies. I named it The Book and The Movie because I understand that these are two separate works of artistic expression that both have different strengths along with different needs. It is inevitable that because the craft is different the result will be different. By the same token, a movie has a promise to the viewer when its story is lended from a book (and often beloved ones at that). So, of course, I structure my reviews for this column as a book review and the...

Hello, everyone! So, as you probably all know, John Green's new book, Turtles All The Way Down  came out yesterday, and I could barely keep it together all day waiting for my copy to arrive. Between sacrificing sleep and reading in the extra time after the PSATs, I'm 30 pages out from finishing it! I can safely say that it is an amazing and important read that really spoke to me in a way few books have. I'll be posting a full review of that on Wednesday right before I go see John and Hank in Indianapolis on Thursday! I'm (briefly) finished talking about Turtles All The Way Down , but be sure to check out the instructions below for following us on all social media channels and the email subscription to be the first to know about new posts and to get special extras before and about posts. I'll be linking last week's reviews and my favorite mental health reads in honor of Mental Health Awareness Day (which was yesterday).  As a last note, the books this week w...

Hello, everyone! I'm posting this a few days early so I can post my Texas Teen Book Fest article Sunday. This has been an exciting week! I'm headed off to Texas Teen Book Fest tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to getting to meet authors and other blogger. I'm not, however, looking forward to the early wake up to drive to Austin. This is only my second book festival, so it still feels all new and exciting. If you have any questions you want tomorrow, Tweet me your questions (@readwriteandme) and I'll try to get them answered for you. I'll be Tweeting as the day goes on (as much as my phone battery will allow) and posting some Instagram photos (look below for more info on that). For now, enjoy my review of  Grit  which was a phenomenal book.  Grit  by Gillian French (294 pages) Overview:  At the heart of this story lies the message: Every label isn't true, in fact, they usually aren't. Darcy knows this better than most people. Ever since that one...

Weekly Reviews and Recommendations: Week 29 Part 1

Hello, everyone! First off, the Monday teaser pictures completely slipped my mind, so I forgot to post that. Sorry about that. It's been a bit crazy lately. So, anyway, the two books of the week are Grit  by Gillian French and Buzz Kill  by Beth Fantaskey. Also, this weekend I'll be going to Texas Teen Book Festival, so make sure you follow us on Twitter and Instagram (more info below) to get updates throughout the day before the article comes. Also linked below is what's coming up for this new month. I'm super excited about all of the great events and reviews and new books coming! These two books jumped from the featured YA shelf and into my book bag. Even though I was trying to limit my book hall as the summer season ended, I couldn't pass these up, first because of the covers and then because of summaries. Luckily, both lived up to my self created hype. Grit  is definitely one of my favorite new releases of 2017 and perhaps YA books in general. The running thr...
